Columbia Neurologist Receives Outstanding Achievement Award
Dr. Heather Davis Recognized for Advocacy, Leadership, and Patient Care
Columbia, SC – The Carolina Center of Medical Excellence (CCME) has selected Anil V. Yallapragada, MD, as the recipient of the annual Timothy S. Llewelyn, MD, Memorial Award recognizing outstanding achievements in the improvement of health care quality and service to the medical community.
“The 2017 Llewelyn Award goes to an exceptional physician leader, community servant, and valued colleague and teacher. Dr. Yallapragada sets a precedent for excellence in the medical community and future Llewelyn Award nominees,” said Dr. Roger A. Gaddy, MD, CCME board treasure.
Dr. Yallapragada was selected for his outstanding service to the Columbia community and his commitment to improving stroke systems of care and health disparities in stroke outcomes and care for South Carolinians. He currently serves as medical director of the Palmetto Health Stroke Center, is a neurologist with Palmetto Health-USC Neurology, and is an assistant professor of neurology at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
Dr. Yallapragada also serves on the World Stroke Organization/World Health Organization Global Guidelines and Policy Board, the American Heart Association (AHA) Mid-Atlantic Board, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Stroke Advisory Council, and the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. His many achievements include the Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching award, the South Carolina Waccamaw AHA Legacy of Life award, and the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin Young Physician of the Year award.
The award was presented during a ceremony held at Palmetto Health Richland on December 7, 2017, in Columbia, SC. CCME Board Treasurer, Roger A. Gaddy, MD, presented the award. The ceremony and reception was attended by family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Yallapragada.
This is CCME’s third year presenting the commemorative award honoring the life and memory of long-time board member, Timothy S. Llewelyn, MD. Dr. Llewelyn passed away April 11, 2014, and was well-known for his outstanding patient care, integrity, and compassion. As a leader in the health care community, he practiced internal medicine for 30 years and resided in Spartanburg, SC.
