CMS QIO Contract Currently on Hiatus
From July 18, 2014 through July 17, 2019, CCME was a member of the Atlantic Quality Innovation Network (AQIN) serving South Carolina as the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) QIO program.
Currently, we await notice from CMS to continue our quality improvement work in the QIO program for the next five years, which will focus on improving chronic disease management for vulnerable and disparate populations, improving care coordination, increasing patient safety across the continuum of care, supporting nursing homes in accelerating performance in the CMS Star Ratings Program and reducing adverse drug events.
Although CMS has always provided a seamless transition between contracts in the past, all QIOs were notified of a delay of contract awards until September or possibly as late as November.
We appreciate your support during this hiatus between contracts. Please know that we remain committed to support the many health care initiatives underway. While our work as a QIO is briefly paused, our mission remains the same: to help people by improving the quality of health care. We look forward to continuing our quality improvement initiatives and will provide updates once we know more about the next CMS contract.
CCME Awarded CMS NQIIC Designation
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services selected CCME as a Prime awardee of the Network of Quality Improvement and Innovation Contractor (NQIIC). This designation will allow NQIICs to bid on Task Orders over the next five years. As a Prime NQIIC awardee partnering with other Quality Improvement contractors under the new CMS Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract mechanism to support quality improvement efforts, each NQIIC may serve as:
- Quality Improvement Experts
- Facilitators/change agents for health care transformation by achieving bold aims at a high value
- Innovators of quality improvement
